12 days of creative kit gift ideas.

Looking for a creative way to spend your winter break/reset? How about 12 creative ways? I appreciate a good craft kit and experiential gift so here are a few creative kit ideas for yourself or your loved ones to do solo or together this season – one for each day of Christmas!

On the first day of Christmas (12/25)…Build a gingerbread house of course! There are so many great kits out there. The most hilarious one I’ve come across has to be this Target themed one complete with Bullseye and shopping cart.

On the second day of Christmas (12/26)…. Learn basket making techniques with Flax and Twine . I’ve tried their basket weaving and basket ‘sewing’ kits – both excellent choices for slow crafting beside a fire.

On the third day of Christmas (12/27)…Paint a trio of wooden mushrooms. This makes for a nice family painting project. Target carries the Mondo Llama brand and they always have wood craft kits on rotation if you can’t find the mushroom kit. You can also DIY a wooden mushroom kit with: mushrooms, paint, brushes, twine, eyelet screws, and a top coat.

On the fourth day of Christmas (12/28)…Go forth and create a fake cake with Jenny Lemons x Fake Cakery kits. With this kit you’ll learn basic cake decorating techniques and create a forever cake using spackling (like what I used when I made my deco cream mirror).

On the fifth day of Christmas (12/29)…Design fiiiive foam characters! The foam craft stick character kits are always a hit and it’s ok if they aren’t perfectly assembled. Look at this cutie sadface reindeer my then 3 year old made using the Christmas characters kit.

On the sixth day of Christmas (12/30)… Embroider six rainbow bands with a Rosanna Diggs’ embroidery rainbow kit. I love the color palette for this kit and this is the perfect kit to gift someone new to embroidery. Check out Rosanna’s shop for more modern embroidery kits and to shop by level of embroidery expertise.

On the seventh day of Christmas (12/31)…Avocuddle with a MorninGloria’s bead bracelet kit. This is a great introduction to beaded jewelry work using polymer and clay beads. Plus, I love a good avocado theme.

On the eighth day of Christmas (1/1)…Paint your own ceramic turtle or dinosaur, dragon, …. These paint your own ceramic kits are so easy and fun for both littles and bigs. I have a growing collection adorning our indoor garden. Lay out a tarp for indoor fun or bring the project outside – this craft travels well.

On the ninth day of Christmas (1/2)…Say yes to floral styling with a Matilda’s Bloombox. Technically you’ll need to sign up for a subscription but you are only charged for the weeks you want to receive a delivery (i.e., you could just pick one date to receive a box). I love the artwork and instructions that come with each box! There are usually fun add ons around the holidays, too, like special vases or additional blooms.

On the tenth day of Christmas (1/3)…I 10/10 would recommend a paint-your-own (PYO) cookie kit from Amidulce (you could also book a group or private workshop with the mother-daughter duo) or I Dream of Cookies (owner Nancy usually releases PYO kits and themed cookie sets around holidays).

On the eleventh day of Christmas (1/4)…Create eleven columns of square knots with The Crafter’s Box macrame landscape kit. The Crafter’s Box has premium workshops taught by expert artisans and the kits are next level and come with tools and materials of heirloom quality. I haven’t met a kit I haven’t liked. These are definitely a ‘treat yo’self’ type of kit!

On the twelfth day of Christmas (1/5)… Decorate a 12-month calendar using one of Impress Cards & Crafts blank calendars. This is one of my favorite craft supplies because you get to enjoy the end product all year long (and it comes with a case/stand). Use stamps, paint, crayons, stickers, anything to design your own calendar. If 12 pieces of art is a bit much for one sitting, you can always spread it out over the year!

I hope this inspires you to create and settle in for early nights and cozy times with family and friends. Share below if you end up trying any of these DIY kits!
