Hooray! You found my first Easter egg of the season! š£ Though I’m not big on decorating real eggs for Easter (exhibit A, B, and C), Iām always up to try a new dyeing technique! Hereās one that uses Cool Whip and food dye.
Materials list:
- Cool Whip
- Food dye – I used a gel dye
- Toothpicks or straws
- Eggs, hard boiled
- Tray, optional
- Spoons or gloves, optional

How to:
- You can use the Cool Whip in its original container or place in a tray. Add a few drops of food coloring in one or more colors. Use a toothpick to swirl in the colors.
- Place hard-boiled eggs into the Cool Whip and roll around until the entire egg surface is covered. It’s quite messy; you could also use spoons to assist with the rolling, or gloves if you don’t want your hands to get stained.

- Let eggs sit in the Cool Whip for a few hours (overnight works well).
- Remove eggs from the Cool Whip and rinse. The color should have transferred over to the egg shell.
I like this technique as it often leads to a watercolor space feel. Itās super easy for kids, too, and because itās Cool Whip (versus shaving cream) itās taste safe. Give it a try and let me know how they turn out! And be on the lookout for two more egg-themed journal entries this season.
