craft beer and craft crafts.

This quarter’s Crafty Lady Night was at a brewery! We enjoyed craft beers and craft crafts! This time we made yarn wrapped plant hangers and keychains. This is a great project for on the go, and you don’t need that many materials. Plus, it’s a fun gift idea. Try it out and let me know what you think! Here’s the how-to for the plant holders: Materials: cotton cord, ring, assorted yarn, scissors Cut at least 4 strands of cord, 5 feet in length. Fold all cords in half and place a ring at the midpoint (or tie an overhand knot). Start with a foot of yarn. Fold yarn so there is a U with one short and one long end. Hold the strands securely on the cord and begin wrapping the cords with the long end of yarn. Wrap starting from the loose yarn end and ‘up’ towards the bottom of the U. Place the long end through the bottom of the U. Hold the long end securely as you pull on the short end …

piñata party.

Did someone say fuñata? Ok, so I’m a little obsessed with piñatas right now but only because I now know you can make them without the mess of paper mâché. My Daddy’s birthday was coming up so I decided to experiment with a new skill and make him a piñata to fill with all kinds of birthday goodies. For a donkey you will need two donkey shapes, rectangular pieces to link the two main parts together, and triangles for the ears. The rectangular shapes will attach the two sides of the donkey together. Cut your cardboard so the corrugation runs crosswise. This will allow the cardboard to curve easily along your piñata shape. Decide where you want your flap (for placing …

fabric fieldtrip.

Fieldtrip! So, I’ve been sort of planning a wedding. The only thing I’ve really decided on is a color scheme. I figured a trip to the fabric store for swatches could inspire potential wedding crafts so I spent Saturday  afternoon working my way through a couple of Berkeley’s finest. I was on the hunt for rose golds, blushes, ivories, pops of gold, and black accents. My first visit was Stone Mountain & Daughter. I’ve been here on many occasions, and every time I visit I wish I was a lot o’ bit better at machine sewing. There are so many beautiful cotton prints, and they even have a great selection of scrap fabric. I often times forget my reason for coming in and get distracted by all the colors, textures (particularly the faux fur), and sample projects. My second and last stop was Discount Fabrics. So. Much. Fabric. In bulk! I imagine if I was a fashion designer or an upholstery enthusiast, this would be my playground. Again, completely distracted from my main goal, but I came across …
