fairy houses.

It’s about time I report back on clay things I’ve made during Sticky Art Lab‘s open clay nights. It’s the only adult activity I do somewhat regularly with my crafty BFF and it’s a time for creative exploration. I’m also always impressed by everyone else who shows up and creates – tea pots, napkin rings, all the things!

First, I started with a door. My friend gave me ideas for how to make markings to look like a wooden door. Then, of course I needed some accessories, so I made a ladder, a well, and a garden gnome (with hopes to add a beard of felt).

Sticky Art Lab monitored our pieces and gave them a first fire; then it was glazing time. I also inherited a bellhop penguin to add to the fairy house collection so he makes an appearance here.

I’m still always so shocked at how glazes can look one way in the container and completely different after the kiln. Check out the door’s drastic jump from black (above) to this orangey brown (below).

Most of these now live at my kid’s preschool where they’ve already got a great collection of fairy scenes, but I kept the well because I’m super proud of it. 🙂 What other fairy house accessories should I make? Share below.
