wanna get boba? part 2.

National Bubble Tea Day is April 30. Are you ready to celebrate with bubble tea in hand? Last time I shared bubble tea finds was nine years ago (!) so it’s about time for a part 2! Sharing five must try spots today.

Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea (Berkeley, Alameda, San Francisco)

The first time I had Yifang was in Japan, and when I found out there were locations in my area I of course convinced the Hubby we needed to go again! I’ve tried different drinks since that first taste, but my favorite now is the Coffee Mousse Brown Sugar Pearl Latte (first pic). If you like coffee and mousse treats, this is the drink for you. Of course get it with bubbles; Yifang’s boba is always soft and chewy. Some locations also have bubble tea shaped egg waffles.

Boba Binge (Oakland)

Well, well, well, what do we have here? A boba spot that also has exceptional banh mi?! I’m in. I love ordering from Boba Binge because of how easy it is to customize your drinks and sandwiches. Want your banh mi veggies on the side? They’ll do it! Want your sandwiches cut in half? Done. They have many protein options; my favorites are the grilled chicken or grilled beef, and lemongrass tofu. And for drinks I get the Earl Grey milk tea and avocado smoothie on repeat; I’m also a fan of their fruit teas. Would you believe I have no photos though because we always order it for delivery and never snap a photo? I guess you’ll have to try it to see it for yourself. 😀

Baby Cafe (Emeryville)

Drop everything and head to the Public Market in Emeryville for Hainanese chicken meal and dranks! I’m working my way down the line of drink selections but my favorite so far is the lemon iced tea (which I know is not a milk tea, nor does it have boba, but they do have those options here!). Really I want to tell you about the food — I always get a drink and an order of the Hainan chicken with chicken broth rice and the most amazing ginger sauce. They sometimes sell out; get there early so you don’t miss out like I have on multiple occasions.

Nomi (Albany)

My go-to nail salon is just a few doors down from Nomi so I usually grab a tasty bevvy before or after an appointment. They also have seating and they don’t mind if you set up to craft with your friends on a slower day. (Tried and tested!) I don’t have a favorite drink here, but I rotate through the oolong milk tea, Jasmine milk tea, and, when I want something lighter, their selection of fruit green teas (cranberry and guava are faves!). I most recently tried Mikrokosmos, a lemon lime spritzer with purple butterfly pea tea, and it was lovely. I generally don’t get the boba, but sometimes I’ll do grass jelly, mango stars, or lychee jelly.

U Dessert Story (Berkeley)

My fave at U Dessert Story is the Tiger Earl Grey Milk Tea, and I love that you can have it ‘for here’ in a real glass. For a little more of a boba date splurge, you can treat yourself to all the snacks, too! Drool along with me – Thai tea lava toast!, takoyaki!, millionaire’s candy bacon!, crispy potato wedges!, all of it!

Everyday is boba day when there are so many fun places to try! Where will you celebrate National Bubble Tea Day? Do share!
