Happy Earth Day! This year I participated in the Nurtured Seedling‘s Earth Day celebrations and it was so special! This is my second time joining them in their home garden for garden themed activities, storytime, and light bites. The space is so inviting and I leave with new gardening knowledge each time. Plus, it’s such a nice way to spend the morning among the plants, in the sunshine, and around good people. Here’s a peek at their Earth Day celebration!

Owners Davina and Flavia set up the most delightful space. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with perfectly placed signage and a colorful upcycled photo backdrop. Plus a reading bench with a basket of garden reads.

In the patio, they set up coloring stations and a ‘bandage activity’ to heal the planet – so creative!

The storytime set up had blankets and pillow tree stumps, and of course there was a spread of sweet and savory treats.

In the main garden there were gardening stations using reuse planter materials like toilet paper rolls, milk cartons, and berry clamshells. And there were worms! They set up a sample compost bucket so we could see what makes compost compost.

And what Earth Day Celebration would be complete without the unveiling of a new community seed library! This was a labor of love and a multi-family effort to put this project together. Folks can leave, take, or swap seeds, plant advice, and starters.

Oh and PS there were goodie bags for the first ten sign ups, and I snagged one! It was filled with eco-friendly products (with plastic-free packaging) and nature goodies – bath bombs, toothpaste tablets, pumpkin seeds, beeswax wraps, and more from brands like Canary, Tubby Todd, and Re-Up.

Thank you to Darina and Flavia for opening up their space to the community to learn more about how we can love our planet every day! I can’t wait to return for another garden hang out!
