I celebrated my birthday this year with my dream theme: Craft Scouts! I set up craft stations outdoors, and after everyone tried each project they earned a Craft Scouts badge. 🙂 Said badge by Monsoon Wildflowers.
Here’s what went down!
Sprinkle Embroidery
I planned for three birthday themed crafts. The first was sprinkle embroidery aka bead embroidery aka chaos embroidery. Anything goes with sprinkle embroidery. I brought out my bead collection (plus some new goodies – could not resist this rainbow of beads!), embroidery hoops and cloth, sewing needles, embroidery floss, and an example.
Candle Wax Painting
I’d been curious about wax paint pens, so a candle decorating project just made sense. I put out candle holders so guests could transport their candle while wet and display at home. I also scored a free candle decorating kit at my last craft swap which included wax sheets and mini cookie cutters, so I included this in the supply spread, too.
Cake Decorating
I love a good snacktivity so I put together a decorate-your-own-dessert project. The Trader Joe’s mini cakes, cut in half and stacked with edges trimmed, were the perfect base. I made buttercream frosting in a rainbow of colors using plant-based powder dyes. The colors were a bit muted, but I liked how they turned out. We used art spatulas and I found acrylic art palettes for full artist vibes. Plus sprinkles. And to go containers so folks didn’t have to commit to eating a whole cake at the party. 🙂
Snacks
Crafts with snacks is always a good idea. Shout out to our local Thai spot – Larb – for this amazing spread. Per usual I ordered enough food to feed a small town. It was so delicious.
Something about crafting outdoors hits different and I’m here for it! Craft Scouts may need to be on permanent rotation.
