How do you celebrate Halloween month? I love a good themed celebration, but I also love wearing costumes while doing totally normal things like going to a puppet show or the farmers market. Last year, we did just that so I thought it would be great fun to dress up the little as some local celebrities!
Kevin of Fratello Marionettes
The Fratello Marionettes’ Spooktacular was the little’s first marionette show in 2023 and since then he’s been intrigued by puppets, how they work, what they do on stage, the music…and Kevin, founder of and puppeteer at Fratello Marionettes! I thought how fun would it be to dress up like Kevin! Turned out it was so fun.

We gathered a black top and pants, I printed out a Fratello Marionettes logo, and we used this costume as a reason to buy the little his first marionette – a skeleton named Starvin’ Marvin. It was simple costume, but it had a big impact, so much so that when we now attend a Fratello show, the little gets introduced to others as the kid who dressed up like Kevin for Halloween.

Chris “El Jefe” Hall of the Kensington Farmers Market
Dressing up as “El Jefe” didn’t get us first place in the annual farmers market Halloween costume contest, but it did win us a photo with El Jefe himself – Chris Hall, the Market Manager! We always see him at the market talking to the people and fostering community. The yearly harvest festival at the market is paired with a costume parade, free pumpkin picking, and spooky music. If you were a regular at the market, you instantly spotted and recognized my little’s costume that day. We got many giggles.

For this costume we sourced a cowboy hat, I used felt and ribbon to make and (temporarily) attach the El Jefe sign, borrowed a pair jeans, and donned a blue tee. I second-guessed if there was an ‘El’ on the hat so I made it removable just in case until I saw the OG El Jefe at the market.
