Another day in the office, another party! Or should I say “purr-ty”? Ayy. To celebrate one our fellows completing their fellowship, my coworker wanted to host a cat-themed event. She put together an a-meow-zing snack and decor spread, and I promised her a cat-themed craft!

On the menu: cat-shaped rice balls, cupcakes with cat head toppers, Kit Kat…plus other non-cat themed goodies. For the craft we made squeegee paintings!

Here’s how to make your own.
Gather:
- Canvas or thick paper plus hard surface (a clipboard would work)
- Acrylic paint (preferably in tube form)
- Markers (Sharpie works well; acrylic markers would also be a good choice)
- Squeegee (preferably at least the width of your painting)
- Wet wipes (to clean the squeegee between uses)

How to:
- Squeeze a thick layer of paint onto your canvas to ‘draw’ the top of the cat ears and head. This shape: ^__^. Depending on the width of your project you might have room for one or more cats. Add all ^__^ to your canvas, staggering as you wish.
- Firmly hold the canvas with one hand and the squeegee in the other. Place the squeegee at the top of your canvas and with one pull, scrape downward to the bottom of the canvas. This action will pull the paint to create the body of the cat.
- Clean off the squeegee with a wet wipe and allow your canvas to dry for a few minutes.
- Using a marker, add cat features – eyes, nose, whiskers, tail…

My co-workers had fun creating their cat creations, even the ones who claimed to be ‘not crafty.’ And we couldn’t stop at one painting! We also tried more abstract squeegee art which was equally as fun to create. These now adorn our office space.

Using the squeegee to get the paints to drag and blend is super satisfying. Even the clean up is so colorful and beautiful. I’m definitely making more of these very soon. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried this painting technique!
