fairy wings.

Story time! My little lost his first tooth, and I accidentally caused panic when I told him about the tooth fairy. Just some rando who comes into your home uninvited and takes your teeth? Hard pass. ❌

But we couldn’t not celebrate this childhood milestone, so after some consoling and damage control, I convinced him that the tooth fairy would not come to visit if he didn’t want them to. And the next day he decided he wanted to have a lost tooth fairy celebration at Fairyland with his bestie.

So off we went a planning to make this visit a little extra special! Bestie’s Mama made tiny teeth wands of polymer clay! And I made fairy shoe wings! And we had a chocolate hazelnut spread version of fairy bread!

We played, we danced, we puppet showed, read books, watched the lion dances for Lunar New Year, rolled down hills. It was magical and it was a sweet way to celebrate childhood and growing some big boy teeth!

Fairy Wing Craft Recipe

Materials:

  • Felt in 2-4 colors
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue

Start with two rectangular pieces of felt ~5”x4”. Cut two sheets together in a butterfly/fairy wing shape. You can draw a shape first or freehand. Ensure you have ~1.5” of edge. This is the side that gets attached to your shoe.

To create wings to fit shoes with Velcro, fold each wing in half at its edge and cut a slit the same height as the width of the Velcro strap. Cut assorted shapes for the wing design and glue on, ensuring not to glue over the slit. I added tooth shapes to these wings because toothfairy.

For mine I cut and glued on a second layer for a little extra structure where the wing will attach to the shoe, and to have more fluttery feels. Add glue around the slit of the first layer, the attach onto another piece of felt. Trim to size or shape of your choosing. Cut a slit through the second layer. You can decorate the second layer as well.

Attach to shoes and fly away!
