My preschool mama friend invited me to host a painting station for her older kid’s park birthday. I love a good outdoor crafting session so when it comes to creating a special creative project for a park celebration, I am totes in! After some idea sharing, we decided to set up a squeegee paint workshop for her guests.

I created some sample works and templates to create a clowder of cats, an abstract design, and a layered cake (because birthday!); and set out acrylic paint, paper, squeegees, tape, and all the baby wipes.

The kids took to the project with ease, and enjoyed trying new designs, but cats won over other ideas. The reaction was always a squeal gasp; the designs were so good!

I loved seeing all the creations that came out of this hour of paint play!

Here’s the full how-to to host your own squeegee paint party —
Gather:
- Acrylic paint.
- Squeegees (1 for every 4 people should be plenty)
- Painters tape
- Hard surface that you don’t mind getting paint on or cover with a drop cloth or other covering. Clipboards work well, too.
- Baby wipes — Have way more wipes on hand than you think you need (1 pack per 20-25 projects is perfect!)
- Watercolor paper (or similar)
- Markers
- Templates and samples so guests can easily design their own masterpiece.
Instructions:
- Tape down your paper to a hard flat surface.
- Choose paint colors.
- Add paint dots or lines to paper; use template as needed.
- Use squeegee to “pull” paint across paper. Apply firm, even pressure.
- Clean the squeegee with a baby wipe.
- Allow to dry.
- Draw on embellishments.
