winter picnic.

To kick off the New Year, Hubby, Sis-in-law and her partner, and I planned a lil park picnic. Yes, it was 40 degrees outside, but the sun was shining and the air was fresh! I set up my 4-foot table and stools, brought out my picnic plates and indigo napkins, and adorned each place setting with a sprig of flowers because it’s a fancy grown up gathering, y’all! I put together a cheese plate of sorts with veggies, fruits, carbs, and dips. It’s always fun to use my tiny cheese knives, and I love mixing and matching snacks. I also attempted a lemon dressing/dip (recipe below!). We tossed together a salad (Trader Joe’s kale-cabbage-pistachio-ginger salad pack for the win ~ I’m a huge fan of all of their salad packs!) and I made roasted broccoli with dates and a lemon herb sauce (recipe below because it was delicious!) We also had homemade pumpkin soup! And homemade hummus! And more cheese! And more carbs! It was so lovely to spend a relaxing afternoon with great people in the …

keep moovin.

One of my goals in life is to go on more hikes, so when my friend suggested a last minute one, I was all over it. We ventured to Tilden Park, entering via the Tilden Nature Area (by Little Farm). My friend made sure we got in some nice views and a good sweat – that means uphills! My personal goal was to walk for at least 5k; we did 10k! (And then I drank a well-deserved Thai iced tea afterwards. ;)) There were lots of wildflowers, and I stopped to take photos of my favorites (of course!). We saw a dam, a lake… …and my share of cows for a lifetime. Apparently the cows roam free and feed on the land. There was a herd that was walking on the same trail as us; we  let them pass by while we waited on the sidelines. I was legit scared and ready to run if needed, but they just moseyed right on by. Excited for my next hike. There is so much to explore. Where are …

to the lake!

My fiancé and I love being able to drive away for the weekend. This time we whisked away to Tahoe Vista in North Lake Tahoe. My parents are both retired (lucky them!) and they were just gifted a timeshare (even luckier!) so we went to meet them at their new digs for a weekend by the lake. Lake Tahoe has become a bit of a Springtime family tradition. Also part of the tradition – eating a bag of Tapatio Doritos, first discovered by my sister and I on our 2011 Tahoe trip. This was a quick visit. We drove up, hung out for just over 24 hours, and drove back home. Even though it was a short stay, it was jammed packed with outdoor explorations, feasting, and visits to local attractions. First off, the trees are perfect in North Tahoe. Pictures don’t do them justice. I could sit by the water for hours just listening to the soft currents and chirping birds, and looking at the trees. Sure it was cold out, but I found myself …
