magical makers.

Super magical making happened last week at Rare Bird to gear up for Halloween dress up and celebrations! We had three crafting booths plus a fairy hair station and all-you-can-eat candy! I was invited to host a drop-in felt flower crown craft. I might have woken up at 4:30AM that morning to finish up my flower display, but it was totally worth it. Check out the lovely crowns! I was so excited to use my flower pot display again, too. Ruby and Erica of Rare Bird used natural branches, colorful ribbons, yarn and beads, and so much more for the magical wand craft. And for the candle station, there were endless scents to choose from and to mix and match. Fairy hair by Fairy Manda was a super big hit. I got in on these colorful hair extensions, too. Each session came with a sound bath and fairy blessings. So fun! And now I leave you with this super fancy slo-mo hair video… Yes! I wanna do this again! What have you been crafting up for Halloween? …

hair!

Weddings call for fancy hair! I had lots and lots of hair for my wedding day so it needed to be tamed in an elegant but fun do. I really wanted a braid and some curls, so I turned to Confessions of a Hairstylist for hairstyle inspiration and a tutorial. When I asked her to be my hairstylist I’m pretty sure she was shocked because she’s not actually a hairstylist, but she’s artsy and has lovely hair. 🙂 We had one trial run, which was really a super fun lady hang out day, to practice a few techniques. On the day of I had extra pins and lots of hairspray. The look stayed in place even with all the excitement and jumping pictures. Photo by Ngoc M. Nguyen Hubby wants a hair shout out, too, so — Hubby hair: cut and styled by Hubby. 😉 The hair things: Kenra volume spray Kenra thermal styling spray (this stuff …

best dressed.

My favorite parts of Halloween are dressing up and making treats. Today, I thought I’d share some of my favorite costumes and themed food from the last few years. I’ve never purchased a ready-to-go costume before. Growing up, my Mom made my costumes; and then I started concocting my own once I left the nest. One of my best costumes was when I dressed up as a Magic Mic. No, not like the movie, but like the karaoke microphone. I’m also really into wigs. They are so itchy, but so fun! I bought this afro wig just to own and it came in really handy for this costume. I already had a black top and bottoms, too. I grabbed some sticker paper to create the numbers for my top. And viola, mic drop. Another fun costume: super fruit! Last year, I dressed as a strawberry. I already had a red dress and boots from previous costumes. I purchased red fabric for the cape, added felt seeds all over, and crafted a stem headband. I really like making costumes from things …
