My meet ups with my crafty lady crew have been on hiatus since Galentine’s Day, but we recently reunited on the interwebs. One of us got a laser cutter so she created and shipped wood initial painting kits to all the crafty ladies. Yes, she even picked paint palettes and filled tiny paint pots for us, and made instructions! (We fancy.) I looked forward to the meet up all week and was excited to spend some creative time together with my friends, but then I was extra surprised and excited to find that our crafty ladies reunion turned into a surprise crafty bebe shower for me! So sweet! They even got Hubby in on it and he sneakily picked up snacks and presents that my friends prepared for the night in. We played games (guess the baby and a very creative scavenger hunt – we had to find some handmade items and the oldest thing in our fridge), chatted, snacked, and I loved seeing everyone’s decorated space. This quarter’s Crafty Lady Night was at a brewery! We enjoyed craft beers and craft crafts! This time we made yarn wrapped plant hangers and keychains. This is a great project for on the go, and you don’t need that many materials. Plus, it’s a fun gift idea. Try it out and let me know what you think! Here’s the how-to for the plant holders: Materials: cotton cord, ring, assorted yarn, scissors Cut at least 4 strands of cord, 5 feet in length. Fold all cords in half and place a ring at the midpoint (or tie an overhand knot). Start with a foot of yarn. Fold yarn so there is a U with one short and one long end. Hold the strands securely on the cord and begin wrapping the cords with the long end of yarn. Wrap starting from the loose yarn end and ‘up’ towards the bottom of the U. Place the long end through the bottom of the U. Hold the long end securely as you pull on the short end …

My Mommy turned 70 this week so we had a little celebration over the weekend. I was assigned party favor duty. Since I’m always looking for a way to incorporate soy candles into celebrations because I have a candle lady (#thatmakerlifetho), and the party was at a Chinese restaurant and the decor would be red (for luck!), I decided on lucky bamboo scented soy candle favors! My friend Joy even made custom labels for the occasion. To package them up for my Mommy’s guests I found some tiny bags from Michaels, made mini tassels, and included a few matches. I used embroidery floss for the tassels. You can make at least five mini tassels with one skein of floss. Then, I punched a hole in each bag and attached the tassels “luggage tag style.” Since I wanted to include matches not in matchbook form, I cut the striker from the box into small squares and used double sided tape to adhere them to the inside of the candle lids. These ladies. We were so glad we paid for all day parking because we ended up staying the entire seven hours of Re:Make. I know; I couldn’t believe it either. We were exhausted by the end of it. Here’s a recap of went went down. A day at Re:Make. Let’s go! 10:15am: We arrive and it’s straight to flower crowns + vinyl iron-on tote bags. There were more fun hands-on activities throughout the venue, including leather stamping and card writing. 11:30am ish: Remeber that epic wall entrance from a previous post? We had our share of wall photos as we made our temporary exit to the food trucks. Johnny doughnuts + cold brew + potential craft celebrity sightings were upon us. 12:15pm: We made it through vendor aisle one of three and got in on all the photobooth action. Can you believe there was no line for this booth? Everyone was busy crafting! 2pm: Brit sighting and mini concert! 3pm: We made it though the remaining vendor aisles and decided it was time for a late …

My friend Joy teaches soy candle making classes and I finally got to join in on the fun. You may recognize Joy from my Leap Day post. She’s the lady behind Lighten Up Shoppe, candle lady extraordinaire! Class was held at Workshop SF, a DIY studio based in the NOPA of San Francisco. You can come here to learn sewing, flower arranging, gardening, pickling, and so much more.   We started class with introductions and then Joy gave a detailed how to. We went over all of the supplies and why we would pick one supply over another, and then we got to planning and making our custom candles. There were a number of essential oils, fragrances, and dried botanicals to scent our candles. Choosing our favorite combinations was the hard part. We fixed our wicks at the bottom of the jars, mixed our scents with the melted soy wax and poured. For my first candle I used a honeydew and pear scent and topped my candle with rose petals. For my second candle I mixed blood …
