In celebration of everyday dress up day, I got my hair did – my fairy hair! Fairy Manda put colorful strands in my hair this time last year. I loved them so much I decided I wanted to do it again.     Not only did it add extra sparkle to my day (and for many months to come!), I also received aroma and vibration healing that left me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. It really was a fairy spa!     It was lovely to reconnect with Fairy Manda, too. And to show her the two sparkle strands that were still attached since my last visit! Plus, fairy blessings!     In true fairy spa fashion we had a hair shoot afterwards. Presenting my now annual fairy hair slow-mo video! (I didn’t know what to do with my face. 😝)     Hope your Halloween is as sparkly as you, and as magical as fairy hair!

Hey, Boo. It’s treat bag time! Here are a couple of ways to dress up your treat bags for Halloween. Materials: Bags (found these at Target) Twine (also Target) Envelopes (found at a Japanese ‘dollar’ store) Card stock (I shop at Scrapbook Expo!) Food picks (found at Daiso) Washi tape (from my stash…) Create a tassel on the bag. Loop the twine at least six times, cut the loops, then place the cut loops around one of the bag handles. Cut another piece of twine and tie the cut loops together to form a tassel. Trim as needed. Style a Halloween note. For the Halloween note, I cut card stock to fit the envelopes. A simple “Boo!” seemed appropriate. Then, I decorated with pumpkin, cat, and ghost food picks and assorted washi tape. Fill with delights! I filled my treat bags with the note, confetti, and chocolates. Really, anything goes. Fill your treat bags with seasonal fruit – like baby apples! Or with some tricks – plastic spiders, anyone? My crafty lady friends and I met up for a crafty lady crafty hour. We met up at Casa Latina, one of my preferred nacho places because they get the chip to topping ratio right all the time. 😉 First we ate foods; then we did the crafts. My friend brought pom pom trim guides / kumihimo cord makers by our friends at the Loome. We made kumihimo cord keychains. Materials are simple: yarn, key ring + clasp, scissors, and optional beads and needle. Tahdums! Check out the kumihimo cord tutorial we followed on the Loome. Finally, a crafty lady crafty hour in the books! It’s so nice to hang out with my crafty ladies not at a craft show – even tho that’s fun, too! We’ll have to make this a regular thing.

Current obsession: making my own confetti! Here’s a quick recipe for a Halloween-inspired mix. Gather: paper in oranges and black – I use 65 lb paper sequins – I chose a variety pack of purple shapes. googly eyes – I also found little bat stickers with googly eyes in my sticker stash. sparkly confetti – Whenever I see these little vials at Target I grab my favorites. This time, gold stars and hexagons. a container for your finished confetti mix – Also Target! twine First, shred your paper using a super magical crafter tool: a cross-cut paper shredder! (Seriously though, I told my Hubby it’s the crafting shredder…) Add sequins, gold sparkle, google eyes…and whatever else you want to add (except glitter – Don’t do it!!). Mix. Make sure all your sequins are separated; they tend to stick to each other. And remove any paper chunks from the mix. Package up the confetti. Oh hi! If you’ve been wondering why all the blog posts have been lagging, it’s because I’ve been busy with hula! Spot me! 🙂 Last weekend I performed in my very first “large scale” Polynesian dance recital: “Ho’ike.” It was my third performance with my hālau hula, but for this event I was in six numbers (instead of the usual ‘one’)! In my experience in the performing arts I’ve never been in a production where I had so many costume changes, so this was a big deal! Here’s a recap plus behind the scenes memories from my Ho’ike experience. Ho’ike was held at Henry Haight Elementary School in Alameda, in the cafetorium. We filled all these seats and more! Our dressing room was the school hallway. I brought my trusty rolly cart, plus a clothing rack to stay organized. There were local vendors selling Hawaiian goods (I bought so many flower hair clips before the show started!) and Hawaiian food. ¡Hola! I visited Artelexia and it was amazing! You are welcomed in by this gorgeous mural! Elexia of Artelexia curates the most colorful items from Mexico. It’s like Coco come to life! 😍 Hats, pom pom garlands, cards, pillows, stickers, books… …chocolate, gift wrap, bags, embroidered clothing, piñatas, … …papel picado, jewelry, art, candles…in all the bright colors! And all the Fridas! This may be overboard eye exhausting for some, but I loved it!! My fave items: everything with conchas! Artelexia also sells popsicles, has a fun paper flower backdrop, and hosts crafty workshops and Mexico tours! Oowee, this place is magic. This is a must-visit the next time you’re in the North Park area of San Diego! So jealous I’m missing out on all their fun Dia de los Muertos events!

I’ve been getting some fun requests for custom projects. Here are a few of the felt funs I’ve been working on… My friend Tally Sue of Shweet Shtuf had her first craft pop-up and asked me to make a sign for her booth. She chose mustard yellow, grey, and white felt. Per usual, each letter was hand cut and I added some cute scallops. Thoey of Ecomonster asked me to make a matching set for her DIY workshop events: a garland, a pennant, and a wall hanging. She chose a color combination of mustard yellow, light pink, green, and white – plus colorful sprinkles! And scallops! I worked on a bachelorette party pennant pack in the bride’s favorite colors, complete with felt diamond. Bling, bling, y’all! I got a request for a birthday garland for a two-year-old’s dinosaur celebration! The red balloons were added to match the cake design. The balloon “shine” was Hubby’s idea. 🙂 Nina of Gooseberry Designs requested a garland for her show booths. She asked for blues and greens to match her …

My last work trip to Palm Springs was a quick one, but I did manage to squeeze in one touristy visit disguised as a lunch run – a local market! The staff at On the Mark are super welcoming, and they kept offering me samples of yummy things. Also, they didn’t think it was weird that I was taking photos (or they were good at hiding the fact that they thought it was weird 😂). They have a deli filled with all kinds of meats and cheeses. I ended up ordering a veggie sandwich (because fig jam!) with a side potato salad (both delicious and I would come back for more!). As I waited for my lunch I perused. They carry a wide variety of wines, chocolates, sauces, crackers, jams, all the things. A lot of stuff is imported from around the world, as well as from around the US. But you know me, I love looking for some locally made goodies so off I went flipping every package to see where it was made. …
